Eat, Pray, Tex.

My sister called me today and said, "Listen, you need to either answer your phone, return calls, or post to your blog...we think you might be dead." And it's too true, I've been in full-on undercover mode lately, but as I've said before, this can only mean good things for my math. I've been deep in thesis land, and have practically unplugged from the Matrix. Oops, sorry.

Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the work, I get grouchy and single-minded. When I'm in these moods I sort of just want to be head down, eye on the prize. But let me share with you a few delightful things that get me through these dark days:

In my younger grad student days I used to favor culinary delights such as Doritos, and EL Fudge cookies, but in my old (academically, of course) age, I've grown wise to the benefits of healthful snacks while working. Almonds. Protein rich, delicious, satisfyingly crunchy.

Really, Anything by Mariah Carey. But I swear, I could Tex math to her 1992 Unplugged album...all...day...long.

An ice cold can of DC. Nothing beats it. (Well, maybe a nice cold can of Harpoon IPA, but not while doing math.) Having jettisoned the MSG snacks and seasonal bad for you candies (conversation hearts and candy corn), I feel justified in this potentially hazardous beverage. It's so light and refreshing, with just the burst of caffeine that I need to power me through a late night work sesh. Diet Coke, nothing else really hits those high notes.

So if you need me, I'll be in my office downing almonds and DC while jamming out to some sweet Mariah tracks. Back to work!
