I'm in love with this man.
Yesterday's announcement was an incredible, ground-breaking, and invigorating one. In today's aftermath, Obama is catching some heat for his political tactics in making this public stand during election season. I say, good for you Obama! Something like this deserves to be said while everybody is listening at full attention.
The fact that today, in 2012, the United States of America has still not figured out what it means to separate church and state, is so crazy to me. Why should federal legislation have anything to say about marriage? If two people want to commit their lives to each other, bound by a covenant with God, Mother Gaia, or the great spaghetti monster...well, that just seems like something that's between them, God, Mother Gaia, and the great spaghetti monster.
The rapid rate at which people enter and exit marriages, bespeaks the fleeting respect for the institution. If Newt Gingrich where still in the picture, man, I would be so curious to see what he has to say about this. With his zoo of ex-wives, could the man really, with a straight face, talk about the sanctity of matrimony? Now, please don't think I'm condemning people who have been in (and out) of marriages, I'm just saying, let's keep things in perspective. Why should our hetero community be allowed to use drive-thru chapels, when we make our LGBT community jump through a litigious hoop of fire?
But you've got it right, Obama. Just love.
