Dr. Haensch Goes to Washington.

First of all, in case you were wondering, I'm a doctor now.

I am so proud, and as Merry aptly pointed out to me, this elegant velvet festooned mu-mu is the most important outfit I will ever wear, and therefore, the most extreme.

"Whaaaat?" You ask. "More important than your favorite fringed cowboy boots? More important than your wedding dress?" Yes.

Here's the thing about this regalia, and the greater accomplishment which it bespeaks: nobody can ever take it away. No matter what I do. Even if I never compute another determinant as long as I live, or accidentally die in a freak gasoline fight accident, it doesn't matter. The headlines will still read "Local Doctor Dies in a Freak Gasoline Fight Accident."

Speaking of headlines, I've just landed in DC for the summer where I'll be trying my hand as a science writer for the AAAS Mass Media Fellowship. On Monday I will be reporting to NPR for my first day at the science desk. I am excited, I am terrified. I feel like I am boarding the mother ship.

Stay tuned, from Washington DC, this is Anna Haensch with extreme outfit Fridays.
