This weekend I was in Lost Angeles for the AMS Fall Western Sectional Meeting. After being so focused on teaching for the past few months, a few days of solid hard-core number theory was just the jump start that I needed to remember what I'm about.
Oh, and of course,
Really hard math, that's just who I am. And although I am proud to admit that the Heights, Diophantine Problems and Lattices session members are without question the hippest and trendiest math crew imaginable, after spending 48 hour in conference mode I really needed to seep myself in a different kind of cool.
More specifically, the kind that involves draping all of your free appendages in things made of gold. First stop: Verameat in Beverly Hills. This brand was first brought to my attention by the inspiring Claire Geist over at DeLuneBlog, and I've been falling in hard and fast love with these sweet little rings and necklaces.
Having sufficiently blinged out the appropriate digits, James and I headed to Venice Beach for some sorely needed hydration and nutrition by way of Tecate and citrus fruits.
After an uneasy Sunday into Monday red-eye back East, I am returned to the Paris of Appalachia, the warm bosom of the eastern Midwest, encircled by the gentle arms of Pittsburgh.
