The reason for this luxurious purchase, you ask? I am officially in training for the VT CITY MARATHON! Feeling revitalized from my adventures in South America, and feeling inspired by my mathematical outlook, this seems a fitting time to undertake this extreme physical challenge. I'll be tracking my training here on the blog, so if you're interested you can see what kind of mileage my Brooks and I are doing. The plan right now is to run 5 days a week, 1 day of cross-training, and 1 day of rest. My weekly runs will be a combination of short runs, long runs, speed training, and tempo runs.
Today I kicked off the training with an 8 mile run at 9:45 pace. It was cold. Really cold. But I have to say, I love running in the winter. The crisp cold air just feels so good, and I think it's very therapeutic for me to commune with the outdoors in such a positive way (rather than dashing from my apartment to work cursing under my breath, and questing my poor life choices).
So here I go! I'm really excited about this, and also a little bit scared. But that's a good thing, as my soul-mate-with-the-same-name pointed out to me as I was having a minor meltdown on a ski lift last weekend, "You do realize, all of the really awesome things that you've done in the past year have been preceded by the statement 'I'm scared, don't make me do this!'" And, incidentally, all of these events are followed by our battle cry: MO' FIRE! So, marathon training, bring on your fire, and warm my soul, because this blustery Connecticut weather certainly isn't warming anything.
