Futrono is about 100 km east of Valdivia (which is marked on the map). I can't get over how crazy this is. Immediately at the airport my advisor started introducing me around and it was like...BAMM...meet Larry Gerstein...BOOM...meet some other really famous guy. It's crazy! These are the titans of my field. To put it in terms of something more relatable: this is like the comic con of quadratic forms, and I just met spiderman.
I'm wavering between feeling like this is just too cool for words, and feeling uber-intimirdated. Either way, I am so thankful to be here. Enjoying a leisurely stroll from my beautiful cabin...

...down to the lake...

...I just keep remembering that math brought me here. And, once again, my mind is blown.
Here's an additional fun fact: I'm sharing a cabin with a woman grad student from Chile, who speaks no english! So I'm having fun trying to remember some Spanish. Lot's of smiling and giving of thumbs-up so far. But this is good, I got so wrapped up in the math that I forgot that I would need to communicate for the entire month I'm here. TG for my {spanish minor}-{2 credits}.
Now I need to go rest up for the welcome reception tonight, so I can bring my A-game. I'll have more details to come, so stay tuned! Also, in case anybody was still wondering, there is Christmas in Chile.
