The first, and most exciting thing that has been brought to my attention of late, is...drumroll please...

Manolo Blahnik for J. Crew. I was so excited I almost spilled my breakfast martini on myself. The bad news is that they won't be too much cheaper than regular old Manolo's, but the good news is that they will probably be available in seersucker...yeah, eat your heart our Carrie Bradshaw.
Of course seeing a shoe like this makes me wonder. Would I actually wear it? Could I actually wear it? And the answer is likely: no. Not only do I stand at a statuesque 5'10", requiring no extra height, but I have a very limited tolerance for discomfort via fashion. While I don't condone the wearing of potato sacks and *gasp* athletic shoes, I do think that relaxed comfort is the way to go, 363 days a year (less birthdays and new years).
Enter, the ballet flat.

The best contribution to women's fashion since the invention of palazzo pants. Dress them up, dress them down, they will follow you anywhere you need to go. Not necessarily the sexiest shoe, but it bespeaks a quiet confidence and a sense of style. I was thrilled to read this quote from our friend Leandra Medine (with whom I am obsessed):
Heels are a confidence booster, yes, longer legs, leaner figure but a woman who feels good in flats--I mean really happy and good--is relying solely on herself for that brand of confidence. No exterior support is assisting the process. It's real, it's internal, it's comfortable.
So I guess I close by saying that my newly single self may jump up on some high heels from time to time, but by and large, I will make an effort to stride confidently into the future on a sweet pair of bejeweled flats.
