Anybody who wears glasses knows that there is nothing worse than choosing new frames. You're in the opticians office, time is of the essence, you're probably alone, and you probably just had your pupils dilated so you can't see anything. It's stress city!
Enter Warby Parker. A hipster's dream, this brand of super trendy vintage inspired eyewear, is the essence of cool.
When I first read about them in the Times, they were operating out of a yurt in Williamsburg (can you be any cooler). Their mission is to provide hip and so-now spectacles at an affordable rate. To this end, all of their glasses- lenses, frames, reflective coating, shipping, everything- are $95. Better yet, they do a "home try on," which means, you pick out five pairs that you like, and they send them to you in a box like this:
Then you get to wear them around for a week (with fake lenses), try them out with some different outfits, new hairstyles, day and night, in front of everyone you love. It's brilliant! At the end of the week, you just stick them back in the box with prepaid postage, and you can order glasses with a light heart, knowing that your hand was not forced.
Oh, what's that you say? You're still not sold? Did I mention that for every pair you buy, they give a pair to a child in a third-world country in need of glasses? It's true! I know, it's revolutionary.
So, I just picked out my pair today, the Miles, in Sandalwood Matte. They should be arriving in 10 days, and I'm beside myself with glee.
I'll be sure to follow up with some bespectacled photos.
