Joinerism

I try to hide it, I try to pretend it isn't true, but I can't deny it any longer: I'm a joiner. A big time joiner, even a habitual joiner. Be it weekly potlucks, student government, group running, summer softball league, hiking trips...if there's a summer activity list serve, I'm on it.

My most recent display of chronic joinerism involves the New England Warrior Dash, taking place this Sunday. I'm so excited I almost can't keep myself from running down the hall ululating and beating my chest. In preparation for this event, my troupe of swarthy warriors and I have been doing some extreme warrior training. Including, suicide laps around a baseball diamond, hill repeats, burpees, army crawls (zomg, I could never have imagined how hard that is!).

Last night I also played my inaugural game with the Wesleyan summer softball league. Turns out, softball is much harder than wiffle ball.

All of this is to say, that I love joining. In my contented post-softball, beer and loaded cheese-fry induced state, I uttered those words that I know I've said a thousand times:

"You know, this is just what I thought adulthood would be like."
And it's true! I know it sounds trivial, but doing things is very fun. Experiences are so much better than non-experiences. A lifetime of activity is a lifetime of learning and connecting, and a lifetime of doing service to the strong and capable body with which we've been blessed. Sometimes it really boggles the mind to think about how much we're capable of, both physically and mentally. What a remarkable gift.

I just need to channel the warrior Athena, and totally smoke this thing. Now there is one seriously badass biddy.

Also, public service announcement, I'm drinking Orange Vanilla Polar Seltzer right now. Le Eeewww. It's very gross.
